Charline S. Cabaret

“My hands are my jewels. They carry the knowledge and wisdom of all my lives. They make visible my love for the world.”

“Art is a reflection, useful for expanding the world and ourselves.”

Born on february 5th, 1986, in Burgundy France.
Lives and work in Vendée, France.

Since her studies at the École National Supérieure d’Art (National Art School) of Dijon between 2004 and 2008, Charline S. Cabaret reveals, through her creations, profound questionings about universal life, human psyche, the links between micro and macrocosms.

À l’époque on lui fait comprendre que ces thèmes sont « trop grands » pour être abordés. After a first diploma obtained with honors and despite the projection of future installations/sculptures Charline does not manage to make herself understood. The knowledge of the existence of the magnificent Hilma Af Klint, would have probably helped her to express her quest for meaning, her desire to understand and build patterns of thought, her need to connect into matter, points of the universe, cells from the leaf of a plant… to human particles. She does not believe in coincidence. Some events require time to develop properly.

Between 2008 and 2019 Charline S. Cabaret changes several times its artistic practice. The incomprehension she encountered during her last year of art school made her move towards more intimate questioning. Her creation takes a shadier path. Drawing becomes a quest of perfection though the line. Different drawing and artisanal printing technics become her way to express. She invents herself a character, uses a pseudonym for her alter ego from another world. This avatar, captain of a spaceship, transforms a growing spiritual call into utopian science fiction. Several picture book and illustrated story projects remain on hold. Charline doesn’t manage to achieve her work, mixing analytical psychology, tale and drawing. Working several versions in a row, she doesn’t release them, as if something was missing, as if her position wasn’t quite right. She ends up burying the narrow costume of the pseudonym after few years.

During these rich periods of technical and personal evolution, her main work themes are related to dreaming, the passage from the subconscious to consciousness and the transcendence of trauma through creation and speech. She draws her life like a race taowards expansion.

The evolution of the artistic production is led with the internal changes of the artist. Her need for growth, understanding and sometimes healing is tremendous.
In 2019, the writing and co-direction of the short film “Demain d’Argile (Clay Tomorrows)” marks the end of a cycle. The understanding and assimilation of shadows. The release from trauma highly pursued since the end of school.
For “Demain d’argile”, she is a poet, a scriptwriter, an art director, a costume and set designer, a director, a woman, standing. She lays herself bare to bring about an ultimate rebirth started with the bloom of her writing in 2018.

2020, a new cycle is here, sharing and developing openness, mind expansion and inner light. The many pages of poetic prose accumulated over the past two years find themselves dethroned by an old love and its eternal questions finally ready to be restored. Painted image. Questions about life, the universe, humans, their relationship with the world and their understanding of themselves.

Painting becomes reachable again, set aside nearly 15 years before as if it was a too imposing dream .
The important thing is the picture. To her everything is a painting; her poems, her video landscapes, her thoughts and dreams, and of course the new paintings that she welcomes with open arms.

The ideas are abundant, like snapshots, reflections, mirrors of the world structuring itself in a tree structure.

Meditation and metaphysical concentrations accompany and build this new turn. To observe, listen and understand is a necessity for the one born with open eyes.

Eternae Pictoris is born in February 2021. She had sketched the first lines of this multidisciplinary work during her student years. She embraces her quest for understanding reality through art as a spiritual state, as a scientific research. When she’s working on Eternae Pictoris, each moment is manifested in her with a deep and peaceful feeling, of having found her place.

« Now that the time is right, space unfolds in every direction. The race continues beyond all horizons. »
